Another strong agreement on KomodoEdit. It hit a sweet spot for me between super lightweight (vi/vim) and featureful but clunky and slow (Xcode, Visual Studio in the Windows world).

@Damien -- the solution I was looking for was specifically the one pointed to by teki, which I somehow was ignorant of. I'm clearly missing one of the google blogs in my feed reader subscriptions :-/ That worked fantastically well, but it points to a small glitch in the ical config on the iPhone. It lets you set up a "default calendar". It should really let you specify as many calendars as you want in the default view, since ical clearly has the capability of showing multiple calendars at once. I also need to figure out how to delete calendars from ical on the iphone -- it's just a few levels more down the stack. :)

For google calendar, It very easy to sync it with iCal on snow leopard. Just go to iCal > preferences > Account, add an account and set the type to google.

I works well in iCal, but will be read only on the iphone. You have to set it again on iPhone to have read and write access to it.

Thanks for the page mention! I've made a few changes and updates to it, and will try to keep an eye on what breaks or gets obviated by Snow Leopard.

I would add that there's a lot more to Apple's Preview than first meets the eye...in addition to being able to edit PDFs (you can re-arrange the pages, drag pages from different PDFs to a new one, etc), it's also a nice simple image editor (think rotate, crop, etc).

Under communication, Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/) deserves a mention for being a decent chat app/iChat replacement.

I'm a little confused by your comment about the GMail notifier: I have it set to pop up notifications of new email (and calendar events). I just wished it used Growl, but I guess one could simply add your GMail account to Mail.app and use the Growl plugin for that...

Good stuff, thanks!
